Canada Homestay
Network Program

Homestay accommodation is available for international students through the CEPEO’s International Student Program. In order to be successful in school, it is important that students have a stable, caring and comfortable home life.

Note: All international students in the CEPEO’s International Student Program must live with a family while they are attending school in Ottawa. They may not live on their own.

Homestay Program Goal

  • provide a friendly, nurturing and supportive environment
  • encourage and take an interest in the student’s life and school work
  • enjoy sharing their lifestyle and culture with others

Each of our host families is visited and interviewed by the homestay coordinator and undergoes a background check. The homestay coordinator monitors students throughout their stay and provides support to both students and host families.

Benefits of Homestay

  • It is an excellent way for international students to learn about canadian customs and culture
  • It provides a great environment for students trying to improve their French and their English
  • Students are placed in a safe, secure and stable home
  • Students will have a private bedroom
  • Students are provided with three meals per day

A custodian is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident designated by parents to provide care and be responsible for their minor child while he/she studies in Canada. Click here for further information.

All minor applicants must supply a notarized declaration, one signed by the parent or legal guardians in the country of origin, as well as one signed by the custodian in Canada, stating that arrangements have been made for the custodian to act in place of parent.

Notarized (certify legally): To certify something such as a signature on a legal document as authentic or legitimate by affixing a notary’s stamp and signature.

Notary Public: An officer who can witness and authenticate documents

In order for the CEPEO’s International Student Program to proceed with the application process, the CHN’s Parental/Legal Guardian Appointment of Custodian (Custodian and Parents/Guardian) must be signed and notarized by a lawyer or notary public. A photocopy of each document should be faxed or mailed to the CEPEO’s International Student Program. The originals will be required when applying for a study permit.

  • In my home country, everything is small and compact, and here it is huge. There are big sports clubs, people have t-shirts with the name of their school and teachers are very nice. If you have a problem, you can go see them.

  • The cultural diversity that I found here is great! I did not know that Canada had plenty of people from everywhere, and the Canadian community is different than my country’s. It is very different. I love it!

  • Ottawa is a very safe city. I can take the bus and go where I want without any problem.
